"....the Kvichak River fishery is extraordinary. There really is nothing else like it. Over the years my brothers and I have hunted and fished all over Alaska so we have a good idea of what's out there, and nothing can compare to the clear water in the Kvichak. As far as the lodge, we have been there at least 5 or 6 times over the last few years.....the rainbow fishing...my niece caught and landed a 35 inch rainbow at the outlet of the lake, right in front of the lodge. She will never forget that!"

Depending upon which air service you choose (there are several) to get to Clearwater Lodge, the flight may be as short as about an hour, or an hour and fifteen minutes. |
The flight from Anchorage to the Lodge is very scenic and enjoyable. You fly over Cook Inlet, down the Alaska Coast, through or over the mountains, and then you are in the vast tundra area of Bristol Bay.
|
| When you land at the airstrip located about 1/2 mile from the lodge, Clearwater Lodge personnel will be there to greet you and take you across the river to the lodge. |
 |
| The whole process of traveling from Anchorage to the lodge can be as short as an hour and a half. If your flight out of Anchorage is at 8:00 am, then it's possible for you to be at the lodge by 10:00, and fishing by 10:30 am. This allows for an almost full day of fishing on your arrival day. |

It sure is nice to be able to catch Rainbow Trout of this size (pictured at left) just a few hundred yards from where the airstrip is. |
On your other travel day, your departure, depending upon when you schedule your flight to leave for Anchorage, you can also have an almost full day of fishing. Since you only have to go across the river to get to the plane, it just doesn't take much time, which allows you to fish right up to the departure time.
Good fishing on your travel days is important on a 7 day/ 6 night trip, however it is vital on a shorter stay, such as our 4 day/ 3 night trip.

Daily Fishing Schedule
Since the prime location to fish much of the year is just a few feet from your Guest Room, this gives you unlimited world class fishing 24 hours a day. Many times our Guests get up early and spend an hour or two catching rainbows or sockeyes, and even coho's on our beach before Breakfast.

Guests also are allowed to fish in the evening, before and after dinner, and into the night. At Clearwater Lodge, you can fish as long as you like. We do not have a set fishing schedule for you to follow. Our fishing schedule is that you can fish as long and as often as you like.

Our Guides are used to the long hours that some Guests like to fish, and will happily Guide you late into the night. (Of course the Guides do have to sleep and eat, however on those occasions, Guests are certainly welcome to fish on the beach on their own.)
| Large Rainbow Trout, such as pictured above, and up close on the right, can be caught right in front of the lodge at any time of the day. The larger rainbows hold just where the current begins in the Kvichak River. |
|
We do have a few restless Guests who get up in the middle of the night to fish as well. It might be 2:00 am to the Guides and Staff, but it might only be 6:00 am to someone who just arrived at the lodge from the East Coast. Guests are free to fish on the beach in front of the lodge any time that they want to!

We are so lucky at Clearwater Lodge, that we have this type of great fishing right out of our front door. Many lodges have some fishing available in front of the lodge, but it's usually not spectacular, and often don't encourage the Guests to fish late in the evening.
Many lodges also do not allow evening fishing, or fishing into the night, and instead have specific hours for Guests to fish.

Quality Fishing on your Travel Days
 |
It is very important for a lodge to have quality fishing nearby for you on your two traveling days. |
It is important for you to choose a lodge that has great fishing on your two travel days (when you are flying in to the lodge and when you are flying back to town). It is hard to believe, but some lodges do not allow you to fish on your two travel days.
